The US Department of State has opened its fourth US consulate in India on October 24, 2008. The new Consulate will be located in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. The event was marked by hoisting of the American flag by the US Ambassador to India, Mr. David C. Mulford. The Counsel General of the new US Consulate in Hyderabad, Mr. Cornelis M. Keur, introduced Ambassador Mulford and the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy. Chief Minister Reddy thanked the US government for making this historical event happen in record time. The Hyderabad Consulate will start issuing VISAs from middle of December. The Consulate will be fully functional in approximately six to eight months at which point the people of Andhra Pradesh no longer need to travel to Chennai for non-immigrant VISAs.
